Everyday NDIS Support

What Does Assistance With Daily Living Look Like?

Nailathala Setyembre 9, 2026

Assistance with daily living is practical help with everyday activities a participant needs because of disability. It can include support with personal routines, household tasks, meal-related activities, shopping, appointments and community access, depending on the person's goals and plan. The worker might prompt, set up, work alongside or assist directly. The service should be agreed clearly and should build choice and independence rather than automatically doing everything for the participant.

Support can look different from person to person

One participant may need help organising a morning routine, while another needs assistance preparing for an appointment or completing household tasks. The same label should not lead to a standard one-size-fits-all shift.

Daily support should be built around the person's usual way of doing things. The aim is not to take over automatically. Depending on the agreed service, a worker may provide a prompt, set up an activity, work alongside the participant or provide direct assistance while respecting privacy and choice. The right level of help can change from task to task. Ask what the participant wants to do independently and where help is useful. A slower pace, visual steps, fewer instructions or a predictable order may be more effective than completing the task quickly. Success should be defined by the participant's comfort, goals and real-life routine, not by making every shift look identical.

Examples of everyday support

Valencea offers several non-clinical services that may form part of an everyday support arrangement, subject to the participant's plan and agreement.

Before support starts, agree on the tasks, timing, access arrangements, products or equipment, boundaries and what should happen if plans change. Review the arrangement once the worker has seen the routine in real life. Small adjustments—such as the order of tasks, how instructions are given or when breaks happen—can make support more useful and comfortable. Confirm which costs are ordinary personal expenses and which part is the paid support service. Keep the scope realistic for the available shift time, and decide priorities rather than rushing. If a task becomes unsafe or begins to require clinical judgment, stop and seek the appropriate qualified service instead of stretching the original agreement.

Doing with, not always doing for

A worker can adjust the level of support: offering a prompt, breaking a task into steps, preparing materials, working beside the participant or providing direct help when needed.

What is outside Valencea's service

Valencea does not provide SIL, clinical or nursing care, high-intensity supports or complex behaviour support. It can work only with plan-managed and self-managed participants because it is unregistered.
